The Devil is in the Details: How to Spot Fake Supreme Apparel

supreme apparelMost Supreme fans know just how difficult it can be to cop the latest drops from Supreme, or just how hard it is to come by genuine merchandise. With roughly 11 million people who say they like skateboarding on a regular basis, that adds up to be a lot of merchandise. Especially with the limited edition nature of Supreme, it can be easy to get wrapped up in buying Supreme Apparel and spending less attention on whether or not it’s real. Obviously if you’re one of the few who have visited the brick and mortar stores then authenticity might not be a concern of yours. If you’re one of the many that get their merch online though, it’s important to know if what you’re getting is the real deal. Here are some tips and tricks to check to see if your latest purchase was a good buy.

  1. The Logo: Look at the Supreme box logo, a real one will have a very rich red while a fake one will be lighter like a cherry or darker like a red wine. The stitching is a good indicator of authenticity as well, where the real thing will have an intricate crosshatching style and a fake one will have a simple layover pattern. Also noted the spacing of the letters. A real logo will have very close and uniform spacing. A fake one might have inconsistent spacing or large gaps between the letters.
  2. Supreme Hats: The Supreme logo should be in italics whereas a lot of the fake gear will have a standard or straight font. Look at the brim, most Supreme 5 panel hats have five lines of stitching. Anything less could mean it’s a knockoff.
  3. Supreme shirts: Look at the “made in” tag. If there are any dots missing after U, S, or A then it’s counterfeit. Also look for a watermark on the underside of the tag which on real gear should be in white standard font and feels raised to the touch.

There are numerous other ways to identify whether or not your Supreme apparel is authentic specific to the types of merchandise you have. The key is to look for the small details, to find what the counterfeiters hoped you wouldn’t notice — anything that’s slightly different from an original. If you have an article of Supreme apparel that you know for sure is genuine then it could be a great comparison tool to use.
